What is CO2 Fractional Laser?
The quest for youthful, radiant skin has led to revolutionary advancements in the field of dermatology and aesthetics. One such innovation is the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Fractional Laser, a cutting-edge technology that offers unparalleled results for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation.
The CO2 fractional laser is an advanced skin treatment that combines traditional carbon dioxide laser technology with fractional laser techniques. It works by delivering controlled beams of laser energy into the skin in a fractional pattern, creating microscopic treatment zones. These zones stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, encouraging collagen production and the replacement of damaged skin cells with healthier, more youthful tissue.
The CO2 fractional laser is widely regarded as the gold standard in skin resurfacing due to its proven effectiveness, precision, and versatility. Whether you’re looking to reverse the signs of aging, improve skin texture, or tackle scars, this treatment offers long-lasting and transformative results.
How Does It Work?
The laser penetrates the skin’s deeper layers, targeting both the epidermis and dermis. It vaporizes water molecules in the tissue, which removes damaged skin and stimulates collagen remodeling. The fractional delivery ensures minimal damage to surrounding tissue, leading to quicker recovery compared to traditional CO2 lasers.
Benefits of CO2 Fractional Laser
This treatment is highly effective in addressing a range of skin concerns, including:
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Acne Scars
Pigmentation Issues
Skin Laxity
Stretch Marks
Enlarged Pores
What is the Procedure like?
A numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
The laser is applied by Dr. Rashmi Shetty to the skin in a systematic pattern. The session typically lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
Aftercare includes using a recovery cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen to protect the skin.
What to Expect After the Treatment?
• Redness and swelling, similar to a sunburn, which subsides within a few days. Black dots will be seen on face.
• Peeling or flaking as the skin renews itself. It may last upto a week to 10 days.
• Noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone after the healing process, which continues to enhance over several months.
Is CO2 Fractional Laser Right for You?
CO2 fractional laser is ideal for individuals looking to address significant skin concerns, including aging, scarring, and pigmentation. However, it is not suitable for those with certain skin conditions, active infections, or very dark skin tones due to the risk of pigmentation changes. Whether you are the right candidate or not Dr. Rashmi Shetty will decide during the consultation.
When will I see results and how long does it last?
1–3 Days Post-Treatment
• Immediate Effects: Your skin will feel warm, tight, and appear red or slightly swollen.
• Healing Phase: Tiny scabs may form as the skin repairs itself.
1–2 Weeks Post-Treatment
• Skin Renewal: The scabs will start falling off, revealing fresher, smoother skin underneath. You might notice some improvement in texture and tone by this time.
4–6 Weeks Post-Treatment
• Collagen Remodeling: Gradual improvements in skin firmness, fine lines, and scars become noticeable as collagen production increases.
3–6 Months Post-Treatment
• Full Results: Maximum benefits, including smoother texture, reduced pigmentation, and scar improvement, are typically visible. This is when collagen remodeling peaks.
Are there any risks?
CO2 fractional laser treatments are generally safe but carry some risks, including redness, swelling, and temporary discomfort. There’s a small chance of pigmentation changes, scarring, or infection, especially if proper aftercare isn’t followed. Dryness, flaking, and increased sun sensitivity are common post-treatment effects.
