SCALP PEEL – THE REAL DEAL WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR HAIR HEALTH
We all talk so much about the importance of exfoliating the skin on our faces and our body.
The beauty and cosmetics industry is filled with brands that dedicate specific ranges of products to address this one single step in our skincare routines. When it comes to haircare, we worry about the quality of our hair, and we’re quick to spray the heat protectants or serums in order to prevent damaging our lovely strands. In spite of all of this, it rarely occurs to us to pay attention to the environment from which our hair grows – the scalp.
The health of our scalp determines the health of our hair, and yet, the only attention we give it is a quick shampooing or conditioning a couple of times in a week at best.
Think about it in this way – we wash our faces thrice a day, and abandon the extension of that skin – which happens to be our scalp, to about thrice a week. Much as the skin on our face deals with dead skin build up, so does our scalp. And it doesn’t just stop there, we have scalp types just like skin types, and a host of common issues like chronic dandruff, sebborheic dermatitis, hair fall, etc.
If one truly wants a lovely mane, then scalp care has to be given the same level of importance as skincare. While that might include regular scalp massages and exfoliating products in your hair wash routine, the scalp peel is a necessary indulgence that will do you wonders by making your hair soil fertile for your strands to grow out strong.
A scalp peel is a chemical exfoliation of the scalp, which reduces the build up, the oiliness or the growth of dandruff causing yeasts on your scalp. There are different types of peels which are done on the basis of your hair concern and your scalp type. The active ingredients in these peels work on restoring the pH balance of your scalp, leaving you with a squeaky clean feeling!
After Dr. Shetty assesses your scalp issue and type to decide what peel to work with, your scalp is first cleaned with a moist gauze to remove any surface grime or dirt by our thoroughly trained staff.
After this, the scalp peel solution is applied gently and carefully in a uniform manner by parting the hair section by section. A slight tingling sensation might be felt. The peel is left for approximately 15 minutes before it is rinsed off.
And that’s it, you’re good to go!
No, there is no downtime for a scalp peel treatment, unless Dr. Shetty combines it with any other treatment that may improve the condition of the issue to be treated.
Depending on the severity of your scalp condition or if there is any issue that needs treating, Dr. Shetty will decide how often the scalp peel should be done.
Generally, once a week is sufficient in the cases of people who deal with scalp build-up issues or dandruff. Thereafter, it can be reduced to a maintenance treatment as instructed by Dr. Shetty.
At our clinic, we have seen dramatic improvements with scalp peels in patients with chronic and stubborn dandruff, sebborheic dermatitis and hair fall too.
We often combine our scalp peel treatment with Hair Oxygen when treating mild hair fall due to factors such as stress or scalp related issues..
While addressing concerns such as hair re-growth of intense hair fall, we use special peels that stimulate the hair growth by invigorating your scalp, which we then combine with Mesotherapy in the case of hair growth, or PRP for hair growth or intense hair fall.
So don’t ignore your scalp anymore, and give your mane that much needed attention. Your crowning glory surely deserves the best foundation for itself!
