MICRO-NEEDLING – A POWERFUL GAME CHANGER FOR THE SKIN OF YOUR DREAMS

If there is one highly versatile procedure that can dramatically improve a wide variety of skin concerns, it is the much talked about micro-needling.

But with the rise of ‘at-home micro-needling tools’, and unauthentic sources often misguiding people on how they are to be used, it is extremely important to know the intricacies of what this procedure really does, and how one can maximise its benefits correctly (with a licensed practitioner).

So let’s understand this procedure better.

1) WHAT IS MICRO-NEEDLING?

This is a process where a certified dermatologist uses a needled tool or automated machine to create micro-tears or minor punctures to your skin. The objective is to stimulate collagen and elastin, therefore facilitating the healing and repair of the dermal layers in order to address a specific skin concern. There are various needle sizes and depths available to your skin expert, and depending on which layer of the skin needs to be targeted, your doctor will choose the appropriate device, depth, and combination. At our clinic RA, we have all the permutations and combinations of devices and tools available to look after you.

2) HOW DOES IT WORK ON THE SKIN?

Micro-needling is either done in isolation as a basic procedure of injury with the intention of boosting collagen and elastin regeneration, or in combination with radio-frequency / mesotherapy / PRP.

The physical injury that occurs with the needles creates micro-channels which increases the penetration of drugs with mesotherapy, growth factors with PRP, and also doubles the efficiency of a radio-frequency treatment. It is therefore widely used to supplement another form of therapy too. The process of creating these minor injuries to the skin fools the brain into believing that you are wounded, and this amplifies the restorative process involved in healing your skin. 3) WHAT SKIN CONCERNS DOES IT ADDRESS?

The reason for the growing popularity of this procedure is its versatility in improving a host of skin and hair conditions which at a fundamental level involve the stimulation of collagen and elastin.

When combined with actives, it works as an add on by also increasing the efficiency of the role of the specific active involved.

Eg: Vitamin C to lighten skin / PRP to support growth and repair of tissue
In the case of a radio-frequency treatment, it enhances collagen stimulation, and at a targeted approach can shrink your oil glands too. This becomes the basis for treating oily and acne prone skin. Therefore, micro-needling can improve:

  • Acne and oily skin with radiofrequency
  • Acne scars and open pores
  • Textured skin and ageing skin
  • Fine lines due to loss of skin collagen
  • Dull skin / pigmentation / skin lightening

4) WHAT IS THE PROCESS AND WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?

At Ra Aesthetics and Dermatology, we take the utmost care to ensure that the highest standard of hygiene is maintained, and that the needles used are always fresh and sterile.

The process is as follows:

  • Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and numbing cream is applied
  • The procedure is then conducted at the hands of Dr. Rashmi Shetty herself and her fully trained team, where she determines the equipment settings.
  • The skin is cleaned once again, and depending on whether this treatment is to be followed up with another procedure, the patient is taken care of accordingly
  • You are given clear post-care instructions along with the dos and don’ts so that you can make the most of your micro-needling session

Slight redness and very mild swelling is common and can last anywhere between 2 – 48 hours, and therefore it is best advised that you book your slot (post consultation) in a manner where you are able to rest your skin and not expose it to a lot of dust / sunlight, etc., till the inflammation settles down.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty always stresses the importance of barrier health and protection, and at her clinic, you will always be left with your skin being assisted to heal and recover. So while injury has been done, we make sure to leave you with hydration / sunscreen / probiotics which begin the preservation process. Our aim is not just to target your skin woes, but to improve the longevity of it’s health!

A LITTLE CAUTION FROM US TO YOU ….

Always remember, that this procedure is to be done responsibly, and it is always best to leave it to the professionals to do the process correctly for you. Self-practice can leave you with worse skin and irreversible damage if done wrongly. Micro-needling has enjoyed a high spot in the world of beauty and skin wellness and rightly so. To truly experience it’s wonderful and transformative effects, do not make a compromise. Once you’re flaunting that flawless skin, you’ll certainly be thanking us and wanting some more!
