A few easy yet practical tips from Dr. Rashmi Shetty

Hydrate your hair

Simple ways to hydrate your hair-

  • Oiling
  • Washing with the right shampoo
  • Right conditioner

Oiling

One of the oldest hair care routine or methodologies believed across the branches of science, whether Ayurveda or modern science, is oiling. Today big multinational companies have also come up with natural hair care oils, pre-bath, and post-bath.

How do oils work?

Oils act as a protective barrier, preserving the hydration and ensuring that the hair does not get damaged because of harsh sunlight, wind, hard water, chlorinated water, or desalinated water.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty’s favorite oil has been coconut oil, not only because she is a south Indian, but there is a solid scientific reason behind it. Coconut oil is light, has a linear chain, and is well-absorbed into the hair. So,if you are searching for hair care oil benefits, here it is!

How to apply oil?

  1. Apply before bath and leave it on overnight
  2. Apply on wet hair after you towel dry your hair

Both ways are beneficial

The best way to apply oil is post-bath. This way, you are sealing the wet hair with oil. This helps to hydrate the hair effectively.”

Bath Etiquettes and Busting a Haircare Myth

If you do not give your hair a good wash, sebum builds up, leaving oiliness in your hair and scalp.

Myth

“Washing your hair everyday leads to hair fall.”

Fact

“No, absolutely not! You can wash your hair every day!” says Dr. Rashmi Shetty.

A single rinse is more than enough, whether you oil or not. Do not do double rinsing.

You may not need to wash your hair every day, but you need to wash your scalp every day because the scalp tends to get dirty. You can only shampoo your scalp and not your hair.

Make sure you choose a gentle shampoo that is ideal for your hair type.

You could always try diluting your shampoo so that you get the benefits of the shampoo while not letting it take away the much-needed hydration.

“Do not rub your hair so much that every single drop of oil needs to be washed off. Keep the hair care oil on over-night so it can penetrate well and condition your hair.”

-Dr. Rashmi Shetty.

Conditioner

When applying a conditioner, make sure you use a liberal amount to your hair but not your scalp. Simply applying it and leaving does not help. Massage it through the hair down to the ends.

Once you finish washing your hair, make sure you do not rub it with a towel or comb your wet hair. Only dab it with a towel and apply oil, and that will make your hair look beautiful.

Tying the hair up in a muslin or cotton towel when it is wet is a great idea, especially for people with dry and frizzy hair. This helps contain the moisture in the hair.

Detangling

The best way to detangle your hair is to comb with a wide-toothed comb while conditioning your hair. It will be easier to detangle, and you will not be pulling through your wet hair.

You can use serums. According to Dr. Rashmi Shetty, you can mix oil and serum if that will suit your hair best. Do this post-bath as using a serum on dry hair is not adequate.

Diet to Make Your Hair Strong & Healthy

It is crucial to get the proper nutrients in your diet to get healthy hair.

Protein is hair’s building block. Do you know that protein can only reach the hair if enough is consumed?

If you have brittle and dry hair, you might be lacking protein, essential fatty acids and oils.

Iron is also an essential nutrient for healthy hair. When the body does not get enough iron, hair growth can be affected.

If you are trying to grow your hair, or are looking out for hair care for thin hair, you know what to do!

RA SUPPLEMENTS THAT HELP

Now you know the essential nutrients you need to add to your diet for strong and healthy hair. However, it is also essential you know that only good food on your plate does not provide wholesome nourishment. A lot of essential fats, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids are missing in our diet.

Usually, it is supplements that can fill the gap. A few RA supplements that help get strong and healthy are listed below.

Ra Primrose+

Ra Hydrate

The above two supplements help reduce hair dryness.

Ra Anagen

It strengthens your hair and prevents hair fall. Full of beneficial amino acids, yeast, B vitamins, trace elements like zinc sulfate and melatonin, it arrests hair fall, strengthens hair follicles and improves hair health.

Hair can also get damaged by wind, sun, oxidative damage, and pollution. For this reason, the following two supplements will work wonders on your hair

Ra Bright

Ra Vitamin C

Have you ever beautifully colored your hair and been on a sunny holiday and noticed that your hair looks dry, bleached and dehydrated?

Do you know that Sun damages the hair as well?

It can rob the hair of its moisture, making it brittle, easily breakable, increase split-ends, and the UV rays tend to take away the color from the hair.

Wrapping up

You need to be consistent and take care of your hair, especially during today’s times when the pollution is at its height and there is no adequate nutrition in your diet. Earlier, people would visit the salon only once a month, while now we see that everybody has hair styling equipment at home and use them regularly. Teenagers resort to styling their hair much earlier than the previous generations and also use them frequently.
