Top 9 Winter Skin Care that Will Keep Your Skin Glowing

There is something magical about the cold season that reminds us of Christmas stories.

But as the days start to get colder, and your skin gets all dry and flaky, you no more regard this beautiful season with wonder.

Why does your skin get dry and chapped in the winter?

Your body is trying to conserve heat to keep you warm during the cold months. The blood vessels constrict, hence there is less blood supply to the periphery of the skin. Due to this, the skin gets dry and pale. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Have you noticed people in the colder region tend to have a lot of pigmentation on their skin? It could be due to holding hot objects against the skin, or it could be since people here are always out in the sun to get some warmth. It needs to be avoided. Yoga and exercise can help trigger the blood rush to your skin, which will get back a pink glow in your skin.

But with Dr. Rashmi Shetty’s quick and practical tips, your love for winter will be back again!

Cold temperatures can wreak havoc on your skin—both on the face and body. During this season, your skin is prone to getting dry and flaky, which is annoying.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty tells us to rule out the following medical reasons with a simple blood test.

  • Check if you have an underactive thyroid.
  • Anemia can cause lesser blood circulation.
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Diabetes

If you are on certain medications such as blood-thinning medications, you might get more sensitive to cold. Sensitiveness to the cold weather increases with age as the metabolism slows down.

The season of chapped lips, cracked heels, dry, flaky skin, and flaky eyebrows are upon us.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty, a celebrity cosmetologist, shares her expert tips for keeping our body’s largest organ healthy and hydrated throughout the harsh winter months.

You can reduce the onslaught of dry, itchy skin that’s currently settling in by following a daily routine to ensure a hydrated complexion.

Read on for some quick insights to prevent, soothe, and deal with dry and dehydrated skin.

1. Use Gentle Products

Dr. Rashmi Shetty says, “It is important to use gentle cleansers only. It should moisturize and not strip moisture from the dry and irritated winter skin.”

2. Prepare Your Home

Skin tends to dry if the air inside your home is dry. To maximize the amount of water in the air, Dr. Shetty recommends investing in a good humidifier and placing it in a room where you spend the most time. A  humidifier is known to increase the moisture content, thereby helping the skin’s barrier stay hydrated. If you are looking for homemade winter skincare tips, go ahead and get a humidifier to start with.

3. Your diet holds the key

Dr. Rashmi Shetty says,” Never fall prey to fad diets. Cutting out fat ultimately is not suitable for your skin. During the harsh winter months, it is advisable to take some good fat in your diet.”

Dr. Rashmi Shetty recommends eating a diet rich in walnuts, olive oil, and avocados. But remember that this is not a substitute for a good skincare routine. Limit your alcohol and caffeine as they tend to dehydrate the skin.

4. Antioxidant Serum

“If moisturizers can be called the rice and butter paneer of your skincare routine, good antioxidant serums are like cream and cherry that pull the entire meal together.”

Dr. Rashmi Shetty adds,” Antioxidant serums protect your skin from the harmful effects of pollution. It can neutralize the harmful pollutants that can cause skin damage.”

You can opt for a combination of serums with sunscreen to shield your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays that speed up hyperpigmentation and fine lines.

You can use an antioxidant serum all-year-round, provided it is recommended by a professional cosmetologist who has analyzed your skin.

Irrespective of the weather, she explains, you are susceptible to sunspots and premature fine lines.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty says, “To reduce the damage, apply a vitamin C formula or use a Vitamin C supplement. Don’t forget to apply a good dose of sunscreen before stepping out even if it is a cold, cloudy day.”

“Use an excellent hyaluronic serum to hydrate and plump up those fine lines. “says Dr. Shetty.

Dr. Rashmi Shetty tells us that another excellent ingredient you can apply to the serum is niacinamide.

Using this fantastic ingredient helps brighten up your skin tone. It is stable and non-irritant.

5.Heavy Face Cream

Dr. Rashmi Shetty suggests using heavy creams than lotions. If your skin is prone to excessive dryness during the cold months, you could use creams made with hyaluronic acid. It can prevent the breakdown of the skin during the harsh winter months.

6.Avoid Harsh Cleansers

While cleansing is a must-do, never use harsh cleansers. Use a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil so that it does not make your skin more dry and sensitive.

7.Zero In on a consistent night-time routine

Dr. Rashmi Shetty recommends sticking to a night routine to ensure healthy skin in the morning for you. She suggests that after you cleanse your face and remove the makeup, you can use a light exfoliator and a face wash with nice cool water. Finally, top it off with a good moisturizer and an eye cream.

You may be tempted to use hot water to rinse your face during these chilly evenings but be kind to your skin. Limit rinse time to five minutes or less and use warm water only.

Instead of using a harsh and irritating body wash, she recommends using a creamy cleanser.  “Within a few minutes of washing your face, make sure you moisturize your skin.”

Before hitting the bed, she recommends applying an excellent cream to your lips.

8. Use hydrating supplements

Supplements provide vital vitamins, fatty acids, and amino acids to benefit from proven topical skincare ingredients.

While one may argue that it is possible to get many of these nutrients from the diet, consuming oral supplements provides beneficial nutrients in higher concentrations that would practically not consume in a standard diet.

The needs of the skin get more and more diverse with age, and hence you will not be able to compensate for it even by consuming the healthiest diet. Therefore, Dr. Rashmi Shetty has formulated Ra supplements after thorough, extensive research over decades on skin needs.
